Track, Tri's and Track

So over the past month I have been busy! I raced in the Friday Night Rice All-Comers Meet June 19. I ran in the mile and ran a post college PR of 5:07, last year was 5:12 and the year before was 5:18. So steadily improving.
I competed in the the Memorial Sugar Land Triathlon put on by Finish Line Sports. This is the same course as Try Andy's, but with a 300m pool swim instead of the 300m lake swim. I have stuck by my non-swim training technique and continued to rock climb to maintain my upper body fitness. I swam within 13 secs of my best swim for 300m, had a pretty fast T1 and then headed out on the bike. I have just been trying to ride consistently over the past month and haven't done any speed work on the bike, and it showed. I averaged 23.6 mph for the 10 mile course, hopefully by the time Try Andy's rolls around I will be closer to 24+mph. T2 was really fast thanks to using my platforms on the bike. My run was so-so. I have not done any brick workouts, but have been doing speed work. I ran a 20:02 for 3 miles. A bit faster than COMBAT tri, but I would really like to see the time closer to 19:30 for Try Andys.
As usual, there was a great showing by the Fort Bend TriPsyclones at the race and as volunteers.

With July Starting I will be spending some time at the Alkek Velodrome to work on my bike speed. I hope to also be able to hang in for some Friday night races come Aug/Sept!

2025 Otillo Austin Sprint SwimRun - Team Just Carry Me

Back in May Chloe and I decided to take on the Otillo Austin Sprint Distance Swimrun event. I was able to talk her into it by showing her the cliff jump first. Nevermind the 2 hours of running and swimming required. She has had a good couple years of running, and was one a neighborhood championship meet qualifier for the 10 & under 25 yard breaststroke, so she will be fine. I also made the decision it was time to really try to become a better swimmer. Its less impact on my lower body and I always like to mix up my racing and training to become a better overall athlete. A swimrun was going to push my swim boundaries to the max. Barton Sprints Over the last few months we have been able to connect in Houston and Austin for some tethered swims. Each swim taught us something new. How to make a tether, where to place it for the swim, where to place it for the run, it can come untied or unclipped and how to just have fun. I even decided to customize our race wetsuits with PVC patch ...
